My son Sam is the inspiration behind Embrace The Difference®. When Sam was two years old he was not speaking and I knew there was something wrong. We addressed his hearing issues with tubes and speech therapy which allowed him to catch up. In kindergarten, we knew there were other issues. He was diagnosed with ADHD. As the years went on, learning disabilities started to surface and finally he was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at age 14.

Raising Sam was quite an adventure. Each new school year brought new challenges that had to be faced. But Sam has an amazing gift. He astounds people by his ability to read people’s emotions. Many people have taken Sam under their wing through the years, embracing and accepting his differences. Because of this, Sam was able to grow into the amazing young man he is today.

Sam is now an adult with special needs and this brings on a whole new set of challenges. It is my hope and dream that this symbol and message will spread! I will not always be here to protect my son and it is my wish to leave a more tolerant and accepting world for Sam and for each of us! We are all fighting our own battles!

Embrace The Difference® is a simple, yet powerful reminder that we are all connected, no matter what differences we may have. This simple symbol I designed has turned into a signature jewelry line and its purpose is to give back. It not only promotes acceptance – it raises funds for a variety of different organizations.   Because it was the people and organizations that embraced my son and shaped him in to the happy young man he is today.  My mission is two fold: spread a message of kindness, and give back to your local organizations. To date, we have donated over $450,000! Please join me in my mission – it feels good to do good!

Sincerely,

Robyn Zimmer

It was a quote by Edwin Markham that inspired me to design the Embrace the Difference® symbol. Quotes have always been a source of inspiration for me, maybe they will be for you, too. Here are some of my favorites:

He drew a circle that shut me out. Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout. But love and I had the wit to win: We drew a circle that took him in.

– Edwin Markham

When you look at a person, any person, remember that everyone has a story. Everyone has gone through something that has changed them.

– Unknown

Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.

– Mark Twain

I believe it’s our responsibility to show our communities the value of all people, to celebrate different, and to take a stand for acceptance and inclusion.

– Julie Foudy

Tolerance, diversity, and inclusion are not political opinions. They are non-negotiable human rights – hard fought and secured in America.

– Andy Dunn

I think tolerance and acceptance and love is something that feeds every community.

– Lady Gaga

One person can make a difference, and everyone should try.

Robyn’s jewelry design is beautiful and simple, yet it perfectly represents the connectedness and differences in all of us. While we are very grateful for the donations it has brought to our organization, we also believe in their vision of acceptance for everyone, regardless of disability, age or illness.

Embrace the Difference is not only beautiful, but it speaks to people. When you see someone with an Embrace the Difference piece, you are curious to know their story. Danceability, a dance and movement program for children and adults with special needs and their families, is thrilled to be one of the Embrace the Difference charities. The donations we have received are making a difference for our dancers. We all can’t wait to see what piece of jewelry is next!

Robyn created a version of the two tone Embrace the Difference ring that is as extraordinary as my Eric. I proudly wear it daily as it connects me to my son in a new way that pictures and memories could not. It inspires me to continue creating awareness and outreach efforts relating to chronically ill children in need of specialized long term care facilities, the mission of the Eric Brigandi Foundation.

As a service provider, “Embrace the Difference” speaks to me on 2 levels: spiritual and support. To embrace, love, accept, and include people with other abilities is what we should be all about. This concept of inclusion IS our mission and must be our passion. To be supported financially from the generous donations of the sale of the jewelry further reinforces the provider who embraces that mission and passion. The Zimmer family “gets it!” I am very happy to be drawn into their circle.
