Each month, Embrace the Difference is putting the spotlight on someone in our community who has truly shined in our community & brightened the lives of others.
This month, we are truly pleased to announce Janet Tartick-Chudy as our January Embrace the Difference STAR! Janet has been the social worker at Heritage Education Program (a school for children with developmental disabilities) for nearly 30 years!
She is known for going above and beyond the call of duty, from her intensive involvement with the school’s Organization of Parents & Teachers to spearheading an impressive array of fundraisers and events for the kids… much of the time, single-handedly.
Janet has run Carnivals with accessible games for the children, pony rides, bounce houses and more! She holds a spring ice-cream social where she brings in entertainment for the kids and their families while serving ice cream sundaes. She runs a theme basket auction, donating many of the items herself. After all this organization and planning, she uses the funds to buy adapted equipment for the classrooms and children, send them on field trips and more! Janet also collects winter clothing for the children that needs them, sends out food baskets to needy families in the program around the holidays, and provides Christmas gifts to children in need and their siblings. These programs she initiated herself, shops for the items and often hand-delivers.
The individual who nominated Janet called her an “angel on Earth”. We must say, we agree! She has devoted her life to easing the burden of families with children with disabilities and is a deserving recipient of the Embrace the Difference® STAR award.
Janet’s kindness and passion has touched so many lives. As a token of our thanks, she has received an Embrace the Difference® pendant.
Janet, you are a star!
Each STAR of the month is rewarded with one of our pendants and gets a spotlight on our blog! Do you know someone who deserves to be named an Embrace the Difference STAR? Nominate him or her here!
